![]() ![]() In an interview with Astrobiology Magazine, Philip Ball recently discussed his thoughts on the role of liquid water for life on Earth and on other worlds. Liquid water is a universal solvent, a mediator of life's chemical reactions, and it has a structure unlike that of any other liquid. ![]() Philip Ball, author of the book, " Life's Matrix: A Biography of Water," says that liquid water is essential for the kind of delicate chemistry that makes life possible. Solid water can't act as a lubricant for the molecular processes of life, so the search is on for liquid water - a commodity that is far more rare in the universe. One of NASA's guiding policies in the search for alien life is to " follow the water." Water is fairly common in the universe, found everywhere from vast interstellar dust clouds to the orange-red fields of Mars, but most of this water is in the form of ice. Water (Dihydrogen Oxide, H2O) is a truly remarkable chemical compound and is fundamental to life on Earth. ![]() ![]() ![]() In advance of “Tremors” premiering at 8:00 Eastern and Pacific, CBR News caught up with Haynes about where his character has come in two seasons. ![]() And tonight, the character’s training on that path seemingly begins. Ever since I expanded my attention to a range of other genres, I have been seeking out and reading a number of different fantasy or science fiction books and series, many of which I have or will review on my blog and on Goodreads. While this is a fantastic genre to focus on, it did mean that I missed out on many of the biggest science fiction and fantasy releases for the last several years. Various evolutionary ideas had already been proposed to explain new findings in biology. Darwin included evidence that he had collected on the Beagle expedition in the 1830s and his subsequent findings from research, correspondence, and experimentation. The book presented a body of evidence that the diversity of life arose by common descent through a branching pattern of evolution. Darwin's book introduced the scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection. On the Origin of Species (or, more completely, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life) is a work of scientific literature by Charles Darwin that is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology it was published on 24 November 1859. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Although Rand's last novel is particularly built on the contrasts and proximity of utopian and dystopian worlds, she plays with these antipodes in her entire fictional oeuvre. Atlas Shrugged thus presents two counter-worlds, no in-between or ambiguous spaces. At the same time, many entrepreneurs dream of the kind of "corporate utopia" that the readers encounter in Galt's Gulch. Advocating a stark individualism and laissez-faire capitalism, Rand's opus magnum Atlas Shrugged (1957) resonates with many Americans' fears that their country may resemble more and more the dystopian world shown in the novel. The stupid person is the most dangerous type of person, and in groups far more powerful than the Mafia, the Military or Communism, Cipolla warned.
